Ok... I got this from my husband not too long ago....
For what ever reason, we were talking about what it means when a guy says he'll call you. This is what hubby had to say on the subject...
Can I call you? = I want to see you. Number please?
I'll call you later. = You will get a call at some point, but I'm not
sure when.
I'll call you. = Don't hold your breath.
I don't know if this covers what the average male is thinking, but that is the rationalization of at least one man.
