". . . The roots of our carnation are the heritage and traditions of the sorority. They are the inheritance of each member. The stalk is the growth of heritage, of organization within the sorority, and it is the spiritual, mental and social growth within the members. The shoots which branch out on this stalk are the chapters, and they are the individual contributions each member has to offer. And the flower. It is everything - the international organization of Gamma Phi Beta, and each member is a petal of this flower. And that is the legend, the heritage of the pink carnation. The pink carnation is a symbol of the life of the sisterhood, of the life of each Gamma Phi Beta. Whatever has been in the past is not gone - it lives forever in the root of the flower. Whatever will be in the future is the nourishment from which the flower will gain new strength for further growth. The pink carnation is Gamma Phi Beta"
Nancy Johansen, Gamm Pi

Our colors - brown, mode and FINALLY pink!

Scarlet and olive green to commemorate the Fraternity’s autumn founding (legend has it that two leaves floated to the ground under the tree where the Founders were contemplating colors: one scarlet, the other a golden green)

What a great legend. I love it when the (legendary) reasons behind things are public info, and not something that only sisters are privy to. Kinda like with ZTA and the strawberries.

Oh, and just to keep this on topic, KD's colors are olive green and pearl white. Our flower is the white rose.
