I think if you are going to wear it and putting up your own $$$ (especially if you don't have pots of it) it is perfectly fine. I think it would be better for someone who wants it and loves it to wear it and get rid of whatever "bad karma" that made the old owner get rid of it so capriciously, rather than have it sit in a bin at nationals.
