As far as I know, Alpha Phi, AXiD and DG were the only groups to submit application packets to Alabama's Panhellenic.

KK_Bama is correct. Of the 11 groups not on campus, only those 3 submitted packets.

Really? I didn't know that. I do remember being at an advisors luncheon several years ago when the subject first came up about the possibility of expansion. I also remember the (then) Greek Advisor saying something to the effect that they would first look to the GLO's who had been on campus previously. I guess I just assumed that had been the case now. Was it not? Was it opened up to all GLO's not currently on campus and these were the only ones interested/willing?

It is my understanding that they followed the Green Book procedures for notifying NPC per pages E-3 & E-4.

I think every group would be interested. It's just a question of whether they have the financial and people means to do it. If you KNOW you don't have one or the other, there's no point in submitting.

Quite true. I imagine the financial challenges alone, particularly for housing, would be a big deterent for many groups or at least make them think long and hard. It's certainly not the same as colonizing on a campus where all housing & chapter rooms are provided by the University.

Alpha Phi has no chapters in the SEC - or deep South, for that matter. Their nearest one to Bama is in North Carolina and some in Texas.
And Alpha Xi also has chapters at UAB and Jacksonville State.

While I am not involved in this project, as an experienced extension person, I can tell you that the most important aspect of a successful colonization at a large prestigious campus is having the right people on campus.
I have watched Alpha Phi do this very well on several campuses by busing in the right women from multiple chapters.

I heard it was your sorority running the brothel.
I kid, I kid.
I think every campus has that rumor. My undergrad chapter has moved houses 3 times in the last 4 years and the current rumor on campus is because we were running a brothel and/or a coke den. It wouldn't have anything to do with wanting cheaper rent!

"I used to date a guy whose sister's roommate had a class with someone who knew a girl whose best friend overheard someone say they read on the internet that XYZ got kicked off campus like 50 years ago for hazing."
"OMG! XYZ hazes?"
"Yeah!"
