Yes, that is the same reason that I put in my own perm. But from now until I have a real job, I think I'll just budget so I can go to the salon OR let someone else more experienced put them in.
I think I'll try and put in protein treatments every other month, and see how that goes.

I self-relax every 12 weeks with Elasta QP regular lye. Thinking of going back to mild though for less irritation. Deep condition every other week. Light protein on the weeks in between. Oh yeah, protein treatments MUST be followed by a moisturizing conditioner. Asking for trouble otherwise.

I never had a relaxer before. Can you "wash and wear" your hair if you use a relaxer? I mean wash and wear, without it getting curly. If so, this is something I might look into, I'm sick of spending 30-45 minutes on my hair after every time I wash it.

Not a good idea on black hair since out hair gets very dry. When we wash, we have to take the time to condition for about 10-15 minutes, and then set the hair (and hopefully you all are NOT blow drying!). I mean, wash and wear is for real fine hair.
