My mom's hair? The picture I am looking at has the eyebrows and there is no big hair. It looks like it was recently pressed. She saved the big hair for the 70s (no fro, though). LOL

My mom graduated from high school in 72 and I remember her pictures of her rocking huge afro wigs but I am drawing a blank on her eyebrows. I didn't pay too much to Beyonce's eyebrows so drawing a blank on that. I was more focused on how pale/light she was in the movie especially with darker than normal hair.

LMAO.
When you see her brows, you'll go: . How did I miss THAT?!?!?! LOL
I quietly noticed the eyebrows, my sister noticed her eye color. They were a normal black person "brown", probably her natural color. Then, as we proceeded and she became DEEEEEENA, her lighter eye color was there. You know, the color she tends to wear to now.
LOL

also, the outfits "Deena" wore when she did the photoshoot... they were VERY reminiscent of today's fashion... or maybe I'm a youngster and today's fashion used to be yesterday's... or Im a Beyonce hater... iono...
maybe a combo...?

Anika Noni Rose...visually transformed in the movie for me.. I loved her
Jaime- eh.. his singing was the worst
Eddie- should definitely see some awards this season. He was comical when he wasn't supposed to be.... I Want You Baby was the funniest
Jennifer- the best actress in the whole movie.. big voice, sassy attitude, wonderful
Keith- the surprise of the movie.. he doesn't look like he can sing.. but he did very well
Danny Glover- always terrific
Beyonce- good certainly not award worthy. I'm not a super fan of her voice but I'll give her props for Listen.. she sung that
As much as I loved this movie....This movie shouldn't win Best Picture (but will likely get a few acting nods, best song..etc). The characters and some of their storylines were truly under-developed

Agreed. I really enjoyed the movie, but there was stuff that I just didnt get, and could have used elaboration (Effie being an alchoholic, the whole situation with Jimmy's wife- they had Dawn Lewis on screen for 30 seconds and she didn't talk!).
Overall I wanted more J Hudson and Keith Robinson (yum!) and a better story for Lorelle (going from "get your married hands off" to the sideline chick for 8 years?) would have been nice.

I agree! Considering she's a Tony Award-winning actress, they played her like a novice.

I went to see it (FINALLY!!) this weekend and I enjoyed it overall!
Jennifer Hudson was great! Loved her voice and acting, she was wonderful. I'm sure she'll get either a Golden Globe or Oscar nod.
The only thing that didn't sit well with me was the ending! Did Curtis just have an epiphany and realized that was his daughter? What happened to the group after that? My friend and I were sitting there like, "WAIT, the credits are rolling!! Hold on!!" LOLWe both really wanted to see more closure. Other than that, great movie!

I noticed that too! she looked almost "sickly" pale in some scenes.

I was so impressed by Keith Robinson. Sign me up for his fan club! And i was equally pleased by Anika Rose / Larrell. She was the best actress in the movie to me.

I really liked the movie. Just some observations:
Acting/Singing:
-- JHud was clearly the stand out star. She held her own in every scene.
-- Not that impressed with Jamie's singing, especially since he's a singer.
-- Jimmy got soul....I'm too young to remember Eddie in his singing days. All I could thinking of was Donkey from the "Shrek" movies. It didn't help that they showed the preview for "Shrek 3" before the movie.
-- Jimmy's character seemed like a combination of people, but I keep thinking David Ruffin from The Temptations.
-- "Listen" is actually a good song in the context of the movie. But, because it was released as a lead single before the movie opened all people could see was another Bey song. (Someone said it up thread, but see is overexposed right now.)
Behing the Scenes:
-- Jennifer Holliday claims that the filmmakers used her voice on teaser trailers for a few months.
-- Most of the original cast were upset that Jimmy's character used drugs in the movie. That wasn't apart of broadway musical.
Other:
-- I think the movie cost between $60-90 million. I'm sure they will make the money back. Most people went to see it to hear JHud sing. Since it was in limited release, I'm sure it did well $$$ per screen.
Awards:
-- JHud should win the Golden Globe, and hopefully will be nominated for an Oscar.
-- I'd like to see Eddie nominated and win an Oscar.

Love him, love him, love him. He was the main reason I watched the show "American Dreams" week after week. It was a nice surprise seeing him in the cast.

Saw the movie and I can honestly say I love the original more. They did a great job but it's just something about the original cast for me. *shrugs*

Fashion is very much circular.

I have FINALLY realized who the replacement for Effie was. I'm sitting here with Boston Public on, and she's the other AfAm teacher.

I also remember her from Guiding Light. BTW, she was on CSI:Miami Monday night!
