Yeah, I agree, just like any other statistic you have to look behind it. The 50's & 60's oldies station here used to have the slogan "we play more songs per hour than any other station." Well of COURSE you do - none of the songs are longer than 2.5 minutes long!
(as opposed to some of the 7-minute classic rock tunes)
