Glad you thought it was funny...yeah, it makes me laugh too. I'm sure it's not exclusive to Pepperdine! As it's been discussed in other threads, it might be a generational thing...kids growing up spoiled and always getting everything they want. For many, recruitment is the first rejection. As a recruitment counselor for two years, I saw behavior from some PNMs that made me feel sad and want to hug them, and other behavior that made me happy my sorority had not invited her/them back to the next round.

Calibaby, whereever you go through recruitment, keep your mind open to the strengths of each chapter you visit. There is never just ONE good sorority on any campus. Well, who knows, maybe someone will disagree with that, but usually the fighting over one chapter is needless and there are many top chapters to choose from. It was always sad to see PNMs drop out in the second round just because they didn't get invited back to their #1 or #2, especially since they knew little about those chapters in the first place.

I don't know that it's necessarily generational, or even seen more at more "intense" schools.

We had lots of girls who were "queen of everything" in their very very small town high schools (it's easy to be the most popular girl in class when your class has only 20 girls) go through rush and not get what they wanted and have it be a huge wakeup call.

haha thanks! Thats exactly what I need to know...I heard rush there was different and I guess thats what no frills is. Im still undecided about where I'll be going next year, either pepperdine or ucsd. Thanks for the info, every little bit helps me try to make my decision.

The way Pepperdine does recruitment is becoming increasingly popular on campuses, mainly because it's how NPC wants things done. You'll still hear plenty of songs and see decorations, but the emphasis is on conversation. Get ready to talk, smile, and talk some more!

Oh, and about 300 women go through recruitment, and if you maximize your options (go to all the parties you're invited to, and list as many options as possible on your bid card) you will almost surely get a bid. The number of women released from recruitment altogether is very, very low. The sororities routinely either make quota or come close to it, which is how things should be.

I'm not sure how UCSB is doing recruitment now, but from what I've heard, greek life there is not as central to the social scene as it is at Pepperdine. UCSB has plenty of partying with or without greeks, so I know one of the "issues" greeks there have had over the years is convincing people that it's worth it to join.

Good luck to you!
