This is the newest news story I found which does not say anything about a leak:
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...61/1004/SPORTS

But this DOES:
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...67/1004/SPORTS

http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-...ck=1&cset=true

IF true

Well, the "leak" was correct.
The way my girl-friend looks at it ( she is the one with MBA from Michigan ) is she would rather watch a 5:30 PM on the 1st than a 7:30 PM game on the 8th.
And she is still of the belief that the Rose Bowl is the Queen of the Bowls.

On another note: The EA of the SAE Chapter at Boise State is a member of the Broncos football team only the 2nd Non BCS confrence team to go. TONY VOLPONI and the Broncos need your support.

I heard that too. I couldn't find anything, though.

I don't think Michigan should be there, because they didn't win their conference. How can you battle to be the best team in the country if you're not even the best team in the conference?

Since my stupid college (and grad school) athletic conference doesn't do postseason football, and in part because I'm a Florida native, I am rooting for my Gators.

Yes that was the leak I heard!
It's almost two good to be true... two national championships in 2006! I hope most of all that it might send some money UF's way because I'm sick of budget cuts!

I swear I'm not saying this because I'm a Michigan fan, but don't hold your breath for that football National Championship. Even if Florida goes, they aren't going to beat the Buckeyes. I doubt Michigan would either, though.

On the whole playoff front, it usually seems the issue at the end of the season is regarding the top 4 places and who of the 2,3, & 4 slot will end up in the #2 spot for the championship game. So why not just do 2 games in 2 weeks - 1 & 4, 2 & 3 play same day, then the winner of each the following week. But, hey, what do I know.

No I'm not that presumptuous. lol I meant that I was happy they're even going! Two championships, not champions (not yet) in 2006.
I don't know how good Ohio is because I haven't really watched their games.

It's possible that the best two teams in the country are from the same conference. If no other team could beat either Ohio State or Michigan, why shouldn't numbers one and two play for the championship (again).

Of course, without a playoff structure, who knows if another team could beat one or the other?

Since Florida hasn't played Ohio State yet (and lost) how can you rightly say that Michigan > Florida?

What would we do with the bowl games if there is a playoff system?

A lot of people really might not care -- except the cities where the games are played, the game sponsors, the TV networks, and, of course, the schools themselves who make a whole lot of money from bowl appearances.

Or does anyone really think these games aren't all about dollars?

If not, why are there so many news ones? Why do they all have corporate sponsors who add their name to them?

Another answer might be to fold the bowl games into a tournament bracket, rotating which bowl will be the final "championship" game each year, and also rotating the bowls up through the brackets.

Of course that wouldn't be financially beneficial to the bowl committes, so don't look for it to happen anytime soon. Make that anytime.

Make the playoff games the Bowl Games, easy. You could make the Rose/Sugar/Orange/Fiesta/Cotton/Holiday/Gator/etc. etc. the playoff games themselves.
