It's week 13. ESPN's page is correct and with the same data as in the USA Today links I posted.

Congratulations to Ohio State.

I'm deeply conflicted about a number of things this weekend, so please pardon the rant/celebration.

First, I think it's possible that the "real" national championship game was played yesterday in Columbus. Two great teams, ranked first and second in the country played an absolutely thrilling game. Costly penalties and mistakes are part of the equation.

Congratulations to the Buckeyes.

Second, great news (and thanks to those who have already mentioned it) for my Ohio University Bobcats for winning the MAC East for the first time. The last time O.U. went to a bowl was when I was in college. Whether you like Frank Solich or not, to bring a team around in his second year as head coach, with only one recruiting class of his own to work with is an accomplishment. I, too, hope he stays so we can see what happens with his "own" team.

"Stand Up And Cheer!" (The O.U. Fight Song)

Now, for the tough part.

While I feel bad about any death, I just can't like Bo. As is sometimes typical of the folks in my hometown (Columbus), the article on the Ohio State website talks of Bo being a pal of Woody's and both coaching at OSU. The article said that Bo went straight from there to Michigan. Not true. Bo was head coach at Miami of Ohio (often called the "cradle of coaches") before going to Michigan. Miami was (is) our arch rival and while I was in college, Ohio had a 10-0 season and went to the former Tangerine Bowl. Speaking to media after the O.U./Miami game, Bo's comment was, "They can play football for 100 years at Ohio and NEVER be champions."

It wasn't a controversial game. In my OPINION, both Bo and Woody were competitive to a fault. I did some TV shows with Woody, so I'm not speaking totally out of school.

Recognizing that both did a lot for the game of football, and perhaps deserve the pedestals upon which they've been placed, I still can't bring myself to admire the men.

May they both rest in peace, though, and my condolences to the University of Michigan and its graduates and fans.

Finally, while I'm not an Ohio State alum, congratulations to Ohio State fans on Greek Chat. I said in a much earlier post that Ohio State seemed to be the Rodney Dangerfield of teams on this board. In the end, a perfect regular season, ending in a classic football game between numbers 1 and 2 will, hopefully, put an end to all of that. It's possible that they could still lose a national championship game -- but to me the season proves that they certainly aren't a average team.

They are number one -- until someone beats them to prove otherwise.

I don't understand why the championship doesn't include the #1 and 2 teams in the country. How does it figure who goes to what bowls?

Yesterdays game was phenomenal. Both teams played very well. Michigan did miss a few key moments, but what can you do. Ohio State played awesome as usual and hopefully one day we'll be them again. (I was at the last game that Michigan beat Ohio State and it was a REALLY awesome feeling when everyone rushed the field)

NOW the BCS is released, and Michigan indeed stays #2.

http://msn.foxsports.com/cfb/poll?poll=BCS

PM_Mama: The BCS was created to ensure #1 and #2 always play each other in a National Championship game. Otherwise, each Bowl is free to and does pair up with selected conferences, and that conference is then guaranteed a spot in that bowl each year if they have enough eligible teams.

Before the BCS in 1997 Nebraska and Michigan had undefeated seasons and because of the bowl tie-ins, it led to no true national championship game and Nebraska winning the AP Poll, and hence, the really big trophy. Under the BCS, you would of been guaranteed a Nebraska/Michigan NC game.

So since Michigan and Ohio State are the top 2, does that mean they both go to National Championship? I'm lost.

The #1 and #2 teams in the Final BCS Poll at the end of the season will meet up in the National Championship game. Things can and do change between all the regular season polls and the final poll - anything can happen.

I don't think Michigan should be #2, since USC beat Cal they should be 2. I guess we still have a week or two's worth of games to get everything all ironed out.

Now that the Ivy League championship has been decided, there's nothing for me left to do but hope Florida can rise to the occasion.
