If you think that war was fought over slaves and the "glorification of oppression"......I suggest you go stick your nose in a history book in order to un-misinform yourself. I don't know what you mean by people "waving the Confederacy in people's faces".......but I would assume you are referring to the KA's....which is rather idiotic.

As for your economic lesson........One fraternity house isn't going to raise the property value enough to tax poor old Granny right on out into the streets. I would imagine this was all taken into account when choosing a locale. Perhaps, like history, you should retreat back into an ECON1113 classroom. They can help you.

.....but hey, what do I know....i'm just a white boy born with a silver spoon up my butt. I'm also a racist because my founding fathers fought in the Civil War...................for the South.

Ok, you need to calm down. For real. I really don't care what your little degree is in, anyone can pick up a history book for themselves and just as many "facts" as you do. I'm sorry if I don't consider southern revisionist history as real history. And please stick to the subject. I know you can read, did I claim that the Civil War was only about slavery. When I re-read my post I don't see that anywhere, but maybe you can just see more through your little rose colored glasses. I also did not call you racist, you did that to yourself. I don't know you well enough to make that judgement.

The subject is not history, it's current events. I know you probably don't give a damn, but your frat house is going to cause alot of problems for alot of people. If it was your family, I'm sure you would want someone to consider the way they feel about.

First, I am not a KA, rather an SAE...I also go to The University of Texas, not Georgia. However, I am very familiar with the area and know several members of the fraternity, as well as others on campus. How do you know it is going to cause a lot of problems, nothing has happened yet?? Furthermore, those people not being able to fix up their run down houses doesn't have anything to do with the KA house....unless you are suggesting that all of the residents are going to want to move after the fraternity house is completed. That is those people's problem, not the fraternity. My family and extended family are all Greek and all rushed very prominant, Southern fraternities and sororities, they have been around greek houses practically forever. If we lived in a neighborood close to campus, they wouldn't have a problem if a beautiful, Southern style mansion was built close to their house......there are plenty of campuses that have fraternity and sorority houses amongst normal residents.

Sorry, I didn't take "Southern Revisionist History" courses. My research of the subject went a little further beyond reading a couple of books and taking courses on my own campus. I was far more concerned with actually knowing the facts, rather than accepting anyone's personal biases on the subject. You stated something along the lines of, "I don't find treason against the US, losing a war, and the glorification of oppression something to be proud of." This shows an extremely limited knowledge of the war and basically echoes the thoughts of those who think the war was fought over slavery. But, if you think you can "school" either me or Shinerbock on our own history...i'd love to see you try.

I realize you didn't call me a racist...but you certainly made dumb statements about KA being notoriously racist and having "racist aspects". I was just playing off of your own words.

My history? Please, school me. Oh I would love it. As for property values, lets say the values do rise (I think we can all agree this is unlikely). The value of the property is what will rise, nobody will want whats on the property. This is often the case in run down areas, and nobody would expect the owners to fix up their property, they'd likely clear the ground and build condo's or something.

I spend time on greekchat when I get bored here at UGA law, so i really don't think its a problem
