He randomly appeared when Hurley finally stumbled back from The Others TeePee Village, with Desmond in tow.
Everyone was all, "Hey, Hurley is back!" and Paulo was in there like flynn...I guess they thought this was a "seamless way" of phasing him in and we wouldn't notice...LOL

To me it doesn't matter how they introduced Paulo. I've already determined that I'm having Rodrigo Santoro's babies.
