I wouldn't consider it bad parenting to let kids go on spring breaks when they're in high school. This is not to say my parents would allow it, but we also only got a 3 or 4 day spring break so it totally eliminated the possibility.

Didn't anyone ever go on senior week/beack week? I'm from Maryland so we went to Ocean City, about 3-4 hours from my house, but I do know people who went to Cancun. I was only 17 (like some of the kids on laguna) and my parents let me go off with my friends for a week.

Mmmm no. My mother wouldn't even let me sleep over a friend's house if a parent wasn't there.

One time I lied about sleeping over a friend's house, but went to stay with my then-BF whose parents were out of town. Somehow my mom found out and sent the cops over to take me home.

She's wasn't uber strict either, because I never did have a curfew -- but she made it clear that while I was still a minor, I couldn't go off on my own anywhere.
At that time I hated her for what she did, but looking back her rule did make a lot of sense.

I don't know ANYONE in my high school that went on trips like that during spring break....and our spring break was a week long.

I guess maybe its because my city is on the US/Mexico border, so we (not me...but everyone else lol) used to go across the border to drink/party/do whatever, and then come back.

But I think it is absolutely wrong for parents to let their 16/17 year olds go out to another country with some friends. Hell to the no! I'm absolutely positive that my mother wouldn't. Like OTW's mom, she wouldn't even let me spend the night over at a friends (my mom was uber strict).

I don't want to be so strict with my children, but i'll be stict enough to know that they aren't going 1,000-2,000 miles to a different country, just so that they can hook up/shag/ and drink til they drown. I don't even care how many chaperones there are. Chaperones can't be everywhere all the time.

IF there were chaperones (which we werent made aware of) I doubt they really watched them. I sure as hell wouldn't want my daughter sleeping with all be boys and being shit-faced drunk. No way in H-E-double hockey sticks!!

While not really a senior week/beach week, but everyone always rented houses on the Cape for prom weekend. I can't think of anyone whose parents didn't allow them to go. I also know of people who went to Cancun or Florida for spring break. It was definitely common where I'm from.

Dear Jessica,

You are out of high school yet you can't quite seem to shake the drama factor. Stay away from Laguna and hopefully you'll learn how to grow up!

Signed,
OTW

SRSLY, as much as I hate to admit it...Cameron seemed like he was the more mature one this time around.

I hope Derek and Tessa work out, but I really can't see that happening unless he learns how to defend himself and his girl to his friends. Speaking of "friends"...what kind of friends eat and run? I can't wait until Kyndra gets a taste of the real world. That shit might fly in Laguna, but elsewhere she'd get a major ass crackin'.

I wonder what'll happen to Raquel and Alex next week? She's such a loyal friend and so not the drama queen -- it'd suck if she had to go through crap next week.
