sorry friends-had to go get on the other computer to print out boarding passes so that hubby and i can go to parents weekend tomorrow!!

there were limos outside waiting to whisk all the girls off to another site for the real party. my daughter said that they had finger foods and soft drinks, the girls sang some songs for them, and a good time was had by all. they got their bid day shirt, a zta window decal and a some more items which escape me right now. oh yes, they got nice black quilted bags(think vera bradley) with z t a written in script in pink.

it was so cute-as she was telling me about her goodies, she said that each new member got a door decoration-she said that they got crowns(what else?) out of bright yellow with their name on it in glitter and "only the best get crowned"-she seemed more proud of that than anything else.

i asked her about her pledge class, and she told me the names of some of the girls whom i had met with her during her orientation. i was so excited to hear that they were her sisters now, because i had kind of picked them out as rush crushes for myself!! they had their first new member meeting last night. i look forward to hearing all about that tomorrow.

in august, when my friends daughter pledged zta at u of f, i ordered 2 darling zta photo frames, one for my friends daughter and one "just in case"-hope it survives the baggage check at the airport!!

FSUZeta-
How wonderful that you can share your sorority with your daughter-a perfect ending for both of you! Please let us hear all about parents' weekend when you return. Congratulations on a daughter, now a sister!

This was such a great thread- thank you for sharing your daughter's story!! I loved the detail. Since there is so much (understandable) concern about not getting into too much detail on most threads, this was a great detail-fix! The idea that you are mother-daughter and sisters is just so great... reading this made me tear up a bit. I just hope my coworkers don't walk by and notice! This definitely makes me want to have a family full of Greeks- so far I'm the only one, but it's a start!

it is neat to be able to share greek life with family members-we are not near as diverse as carnations family, but amongst our family members we have zta, adpi, pi phi, chi o, a chi o, phi mu and theta. for fraternities we have ato, pike, lambda chi, k a, pi kap, tke , sae and delta upsilon. it doesn't really matter that we are in different orgs., it is the fact that we are members of greek orgs.(and family) that connect us.

Yet!

I am just amazed by the number of GLOs some families have! Of course, I have a family which could have a family reunion in a linen closet...

I also come from a pretty solid Greek tradition.... and no one in my family is in the same organization.... Then again, my mom's sorority is not at my school ( even though my school has 11 panhellenic and about 4 multicultural). My aunts' and grandmother's are, but I am not in theirs.

I do have a little sister that is 9 and already is talking about going to my school and possibly joining my group. I have a strong feeling that she will decide to rush upon entering college. There are also my three younger brother's too, one of which is entering college next year and is looking at joining a fraternity.

I really do hope that i can share a similar story later in life!

I found out that my relatives were secretly hoping that I would join their organizations, but they were just as happy when I joined my own!

For all the members here, just remember that it is all about where your son/daughter/relative/friend feels most comfortable. My best friend is in a different sorority, one that I didn't really fit with during recruitment.
