I dunno, it just seemed weird for a powerhouse team like Texas to play at Rice. It just seems like it'd be the equivalent of UGA or Auburn playing at UCF or something. Maybe its different if you're in the same state.

The stadium at Rice is fairly big, isn't it?
It still comes down to getting the home percentage of the gate.
For instance, Colorado and Ohio State did a home and home series a few years ago, even though Ohio Stadium was (at that time) about 85,000 and Folsom Field at CU was/is only about half that size.

Yeah I mean I guess. Still though, I don't really think you can compare Colorado to Rice, although they're equally terrible this year.

We played them at the Houston Texans stadium.

The Texas at Rice game was Reliant Stadium, home of the Houston Texans.

I believe that for most games, it is a set dollar amount and not a percentage of the gate. Usually the same dollar amount when it is a home and home series. Otherwise, there might not be an incentive to play at schools with smaller stadiums.

Often the "smaller" team is taking the place of a cancellation in their schedule, especially if its a one year/one game only deal.

There was a write-up about why "smaller schools" play the "big boys" in at least one papers' sport section in the past few weeks.
Boils down to two issues:
1) Money for the smaller school.
2) What "should be" a win for the larger school.
This came about with the expantion of schedule a few year ago....This all to my best recall......
