My sister's college boyfriend was Muslim. Well, I assume he's still Muslim but he's no longer her boyfriend. Anyhoo...

When she and he spent the summer at their vacation house she couldn't bring her dog because his dad was very adament about dogs being unclean and didn't allow them in the house.

Just spoke with an Iranian client about this as we were BS'ing. Apparently, in Tehran, every woman wants to be like Paris Hilton. Thus, small yipyip dogs are "in." This is disturbing to the religious people, and as we know, in Iran, when the religious and secular folks disagree, the religious folks win.

Cooper:

I'm not sure if that was just an expression, or that he meant it literally.

I don't have a hard time believing that some Persian women would emulate celebrities like Paris Hilton though. Paris Hilton may be more unifying than the U.N.

Sorry it's just I've got this image of some Mulah sitting in a Cafe in Mecca when a Paris Hilton clone walks in carrying a little yippie dog... in standard Paris Hiltonesque style she acts like an idiot and a skank, all the while her little dog yipping away... slowly the Mulah looks around and sees more of the Hilton clones on the street walking by, all with little yippie dogs - and here he hits upon the plan to stop the evil Paris Hilton clones in their tracks: by taking away their "cute" weapons of annoyance

As I understand it, these sorts of laws will be fairly meaningless in Iran. Money will be paid to police so that the operation of the puppy mills will continue unabated, and all will be well.

That's just plain CRAZY.

I did read that a few years ago, keeping pet pigeons was banned by the Taliban. As well as flying kites- I can see how this second one has a clear USA link.

But what are people going to do then? The amount of thought control there is CRAZY.

Especially since Mohammed himself clearly loved pets.

I don't think I'll ever understand that part of the world.

It seems to me that many people grow to hate Americans because of everything that is available for us to have... but when it's available over there, they ban it because it seems like it is too much of a Western influence?

Do they want us to be just like them or something?

It seems like they're making up religion as they go along. There's references to Muhammad loving cats so much, he even let one drink from his ablutions water before performing the washing ritual before prayers.
