if you pledge a sorority and drop prior to initiation, then you are eligible to go through recruitement for another organization.

someone with more experience on your campus can clarify just in case they do something different, but i believe that ranking the sororities after pref means that you will accept a bid from them. that is what binds you for one calendar year and makes you ineligible for cob.

you will be eligible for formal recruitment next year, just not cob this year.

i hope someone from your campus can hop in and clarify about the signing bids topic.

good luck and thanks for sharing your story.

pinkyphimu was right on the money-if you pledge mexico and depledge you will be able to participate in formal recruitment next year.

if you do not sign your bid card and remain independent, or sign the bid card and depledge, be sure to become involved in some activites on campus-dance marathon, some volunteer organization, and work hard to make the best grades you can. sororities look for good grades and girls who want to make a difference in their community.

also get recommendations-it is not a guarantee you will be invited back, but for some houses, it is pretty much a guarantee you WON'T be invited back.

you know what is best for you-i think that you will make the right decision.

Just a caution about depledging - that kind of thing usually gets around and the sororities may hold it against you next year.

I got my bid back today. I thought for sure I'd get a bid from Mexico--they rushed me pretty hard. (I put Mexico as first choice, Germany second--I was told I couldn't SIP that it would kick me out of recruitment) Instead, I got a bid from Germany. I had asked God last night to please give me a sign on what I should do, because I was truly stuck. Well, I think His sign was to give me this bid from Germany. I knew I wouldn't feel comfortable in this house and that it wasn't for me, and I think this was His way of showing me I shouldn't be in a sorority right now. (sorry to those who aren't christian) Thank you all for your support and kind words, it really helped me along. I gave each sorority a fair try, but in the end, I just know that this house is not where I should be. I might give recruitment a shot next year--I'm going to really build up my resume this year, get involved, make grades, and go out and meet people and get my name out there. I had a good but stressful week, and I think what I need right now is just some ice cream and time to start getting ready for classes. Recruitment was an experience, and it's just going to help me grow. Like they say, "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger. "

dear nolegirl88, i am truly sorry that recruitment did not end as you had hoped, but as you say, perhaps it ended as was intended. go get that ice cream(it is amazing what a serving of ice cream can do!!).

good luck with classes. it sounds like you have some good plans for the coming year-even if you decide that recruitment is not for you next year, you will be building a great resume'!! best wishes to you.

Nolegirl88: I have been reading your thread with much interest, and I am sorry that things did not turn out the way you had hoped. You have gotten some fantastic advice from some fantastic women on this thread that I am sure helped you out a great deal. But in the end to this chapter, you followed your heart and your God. You show great poise and strength of character, and I know that with some personal growth ("building up the resume"), next year's recruitment will be a different, and hopefully more positive experience. To quote Chef Didier from Last Holiday: It's not how you start, but how you finish. You've still got more chapters to write in your collegiate life. Best of luck to you!

NoleGirl, there's so much to do and so many opportunities on campus for you, and you'll shine through, I'm sure.

In fact, you will have a great opportunity to stand out - so many new pledges will be very busy with their pledge programs, that campus activities will be glad to have someone who can devote some real quality time to that group. You'll also get a clear picture about whether or not membership in a GLO is really for you.

Good luck in school, get ready for football season, which is awesome, and - GO NOLES!

Nolegirl: I'm really sorry recruitment didn't turn out as you expected. Best wishes to you in everything you do at FSU. I know you said you didn't think COR would be for you, but if a house that you are truly interested in is holding it, I think that maybe it wouldn't hurt to visit them a time or two to see what they are all about.

COR is MUCH more relaxed that Recruitment can be. I joined through COR, and if I had to go back, I would probably do it that way all again. Formal recruitment sounds like a really fun and exciting week for pnms, but honestly I think it would have drove me bananas

Best of luck in everything you do !

I don't know why you were told SIP would kick you out of recruitment. It would have disqualified you to be a quota addition, but you would have been eligible for COB. Now you are ineligible for recruitment until next Fall.

I'm sorry things didn't turn out the way you wanted. My advice to you would be to give the house a week - you aren't out anything if you do this and you have everything to gain.

So sorry I was thinking faster than typing...
She got two invites and then was dropped before pref, sorry about the mix up... One was the one she really wanted and that was the one she was doubled on twice and the other one was not even to her liking even though she said all the Sisters were great at both.... Her RG told her that she is eleigible in the Spring
and she is looking for information on the Recruitment Process.
Thank you for correcting me I have read this one over

Also t
Thank you for the information..
That's OK. You daughter would be eligble for COB, but as I said, there are probably only one or two chapters that will be participating in the Fall. Possibly a few more chapters will have openings in the Spring.
