It's life time for us.
Well you said "most" but you never said that was just based on the ones you've run across.

None of this stuff is 100%. There are BGLO members who say USED (and there are even more whose actions aren't reflective of a lifetime commitment). The difference is that it appears to be more of a crime against humanity when BGLO members don't live out their lifetime commitment.

The way I have seen it, most older aged men that I know love to contribute to their chapters, do stuff with pledge brothers, many whom are now business partners, and go to football games and tailgates at the house........but really don't care as much to make it a point to advertise that they are "still in a fraternity or still an SAE or whatever fraternity that they pledged." Considering the personal achievements that they had and continue to have.....letting everyone know that they are still greek is of the least of their concerns.

I see what your saying but one of the reasons why I wear a hat sometimes, is because I might meet another frat brother. A perfect example of this is I always wanted to design cars and one day I was at the gas station with a frat sweat shirt on and this older guy who is also a member helped me get into one of the best industrial design schools world wide. I just had to work hard to build a portfolio to get in. It took me two times but I got in. If I hadn't had any frat stuff on, I wouldn't have gotten into the school as soon as I did. He's one of the head designers at Daimler Chrysler. We keep in touch and when I'm done, Daimler Chrysler will do just fine. But to each his own.

That's the difference. While not all BGLO members feel the need to advertise, many of us do. I'm 8 years in and I don't wear 'nalia but I have a license plate on my car. I have Sorors who are 60 years in who still wear 'nalia almost on a daily basis. It varies based on personal preference.

When I was in college, I saw an OLD man wearing an OLD SAE sweatshirt. He looked sooooo cute and all the BGLO members and other black students were like "awwwww...that's wonderful!!!" However, many (not all, of course) of the white students were laughing at him as he walked through the student commons building. Like they thought he looked ridiculous and needed to hang it up.

This is a common argument but all of our organizations are filled with accomplished people who are changing society and the world. Yet, we are able to multitask and be multifaceted. It isn't hard to do. People do it all the time. It's just that many of your fraternity brothers choose to multitask, and advertise affiliation, with organizations other than the one they pledged a lifetime commitment to.

If members of BGLOs say "used to", it's because they are usually taking a permanent hiatus from the organization and no longer wish to be affiliated. It should be a crime to join a BGLO and then become completely inactive once you graduate. The work of the organization is not completed just because you graduated and honestly the alumni and alumnae chapters work their butts off for the community. So why not affiliate with one?

One reason could be money. We never know someone's financial situation, and in some cases you aren't considered a 'member' if you haven't paid dues.
