Just say NO to scrunchies unless you are in your own bathroom. If you must pull your hair back, use an elastic. They have fabulous ouchless elastics that don't break your hair. Cloth scrunchies remind me of trailer parks. You can get sleek, hair-colored barrettes if you have some hair you need to pin down while it's up. Butterfly clips are cool for the five and under crowd.

Before I got my hair cut this summer I went to the gym a lot and my hair stylist asked me to stop wearing the black "ouchless" elastics because they were breaking my hair. She suggested buying some scrunchies, but not the big 80's looking ones. She said to get some simple plain cloth covered ones that were much smaller then the ones from my childhood. I think they were like 6 for 2.00$ at the drugstore and are all brown and black plain cloth.
