You like to argue, don't you?
Technically, yes... they both are socks. However, maybe it's a regional thing, but socks generally mean that they cover your ankles.
Peds are below your ankle.
Is there anything else you would like to argue about? Maybe you don't like my smiley faces? Or perhaps my spelling is poor? Have at it.

The peds I wear don't have treads on them; they're just low. I don't want people thinking I wear socks with treads inside my shoes. Hee hee! Like this, only in solid colors:

Please, do not let it turn into a SOCK IT TO ME thread!

I was asking a question because I really don't see the difference between the two. You're the one who likes to argue because my comment clearly wasn't directed at you, unless somehow miraculously you dictated to your friend what she had to wear to her initiation.

Wow...I'm gone for a weekend, and my thread turns into a sock discussion. How funny For a second I actually thought I was on the "twentysomething" thread from Chit Chat.
Thanks, everybody, for your input, and especially "thank you" to my future ASA sisters for your tips. I didn't know that opened toed shoes were out, but the panty hoes/opened-toed issue makes that obvious! I hate seeing women showing off that "lovely" seam. It's especially "attractive" with old toe nail polish (which I will not have at ritual).
My sponsor has informed me about proper dress, but we didn't get specific about shoes. Only that they must be white.
I'll let you know what I find, and since I do have a little while yet, I might try buying online as long as they have a good return policy.
Thanks again!

You can ask your sponsor too. While I clearly don't know how much is required universally at ASA and what is local tradition, your sponsor can let you know what's acceptable at the chapter you're attending.
Have SOOOOO much fun!

LouisaMay, I don't know how much you'd like to spend on shoes, but these are $70 at Steve Madden.
ETA:
These are $50.
These are $30.

zappos.com has free shipping and returns. I swear, I don't own stock in them, but it's one of the best online shopping experiences I've ever had. Good Luck!

A new initiation date has been proposed. Not set in stone, but it looks like I will be an official member of Alpha Sigma Alpha on February 2, 2007.

Peds are like the shorter sports socks that only go ankle-high. You know, like low-rise socks. They are the only kind of socks I will wear!
