Technically, yes... they both are socks. However, maybe it's a regional thing, but socks generally mean that they cover your ankles.
Peds are below your ankle.

The peds I wear don't have treads on them; they're just low. I don't want people thinking I wear socks with treads inside my shoes. Hee hee! Like this, only in solid colors:

I was asking a question because I really don't see the difference between the two. You're the one who likes to argue because my comment clearly wasn't directed at you, unless somehow miraculously you dictated to your friend what she had to wear to her initiation.

Peds are like the shorter sports socks that only go ankle-high. You know, like low-rise socks. They are the only kind of socks I will wear!

They ususally have treads on the bottom too...

It is a brand name of socks as well. They make all kinds of styles, liners for dress shoes, toe coverers for backless, athletic socks of various styles, regular socks, and so on. I have found them to be durable and a good value.
