As an aside, here's a silly question: if you can go to up to 8 parties, why do they call it six party day?

It's not a silly question but I have a silly answer. First off there were 7 parties during this round, not 8. Second, in years past there were only 6 parties, hence the nickname Six Party Round. But due to the incredibly large number of PNMs that are participating in Recruitment this year at Alabama they increased the number to 7. No one knows (or is admitting ) why Panhellenic didn't change the name. Many folks refer to it simply as Skit Day.

A little more FYI if anyone's interested. Years ago the previous round was called Ten Party since that was the number of parties . Once we adopted Philanthropy Day everyone started calling it that. Also, the first round was Ice Water Tea and still is for many. However, it has been officially changed by our Panhellenic to Open House. Finally, the last round that most folks call Preference is referred to as Serious Night here (regardless of the time of day it's held).

Another little aside, back at Illinois when I went through Rush (for me too it was called that way back when), we simply called them 1st round, 2nd, 3rd and Pref. I wonder if they still do there? I've discovered that many campuses have different nicknames for the various rounds.

Don't forget - Serious Night used to be held in the evenings! I missed out, but the senior class (when I pledged) was the last year they got to do Serious Night at night and I always heard it was so beautiful. I really wish we had been able to do that!

By the way - ROLL TIDE!!

When I was there we either called them "rounds" or "stages" - first stage, second stage, etc. I think that is still the terminology there.

We just heard from Bama Daughter about fifteen minutes ago. Here is a recap:

* D was invited back to 13 houses of 15 after Open Houses. She cut two sororities and so attended 11 houses on Philanthropy Day.

* D was Invited back to 8 houses of 11 after Philanthropy Day. She cut four sororities and so attended 7 houses on Six Party Day.

And now for today's update.....

* D was invited back to 6 houses of 7 after Six Party Day. She cut three sororities and so will attend 3 houses at Preference Day today!

Thank all of you for your advice (private and public) as we agonized through yesterday's events. My D was obviously a bit too pessimistic when she told us abut her flat conversations at Six Party Day. She is excited and looking forward to today! We told her to let them know how much she wants to belong to any oneof their houses. There is now much more of a frontrunner than ever before, but she said she would be extremely happy with any one of the three. Amen!

Yippie. I was waiting for your update!!!

Congrats to your daughter. Tonight will be an emotional one for her. Prefs are always a sentimental time for the Sorority members and the PNMs.

Good Luck to your family!

Fantastic! Wow! Such a well rounded and popular girl. She will do great. She will be a great asset for any of the three.

Zillini and Irishpipes: University of Illinois--This is the terminology used this year----Open House (19 houses this year) over 2 days, 1st invitational (10 houses this year), 2nd invitational (5 houses--could be 6 this year), 3rd invitational (3 houses this year). Most still call 3rd, Pref. Bid day is the day after 3rd invitational.

BamaDad and BamaMom--great way to approach your daughter's recruitment. Exactly what I and DaddyOwl did when our daughter went thru in 2004 at a large greek school. Daughter flew thru recruitment with a "perfect recruitment" and picked the best house for her. Today we are the proud parents of the President of her chapter! She continued the tradition in our family of choosing a different sorority!

I know your daughter is enjoying herself right now during the serious night at 'Bama. What a thrill for all of you. May it continue to be exciting thru her bid day tomorrow.

This is a great thread. My parents were apathetic to antipathetic (especially my mother, who disdains the fact that both my sister and I are Greek, but hates the fact that I'm NPC even more) about my Greek experience, so it's great to hear from a parent who is genuinely excited about Recruitment!

I wish Bama put their bid list up like Auburn did. I wrote 5 Bama recs and I want to know where my girls went!

Munchkin,
The Univ. of Alabama's news bureau will post a list of who pledged where. I would not be surprised if it is up first thing Monday morning...or even Sunday night. If Zillini doesn't post the link, I will.
As far as I know, Alabama and Auburn are the only schools that do this. If they don't, they quickly hear from hundreds of alums!
How sad that your Mom is so antagonistic about being in an NPC group. Why does that even matter?

Have both sides - pnm and sorority - completed their input into the magic computer, or are the sororities still debating their selections?
