When I first moved to the South the only familar thing I could find was a Food Lion! I will tell you the one chain I wish would move South but it hasn't is Wawa. That was the best little convience store!

Anybody know what the most popular grocery store is? I guess I just havent gotten out of my area too much (well, and bought groceries), but most of the time when they talk about big grocery store chains I have no idea what they are talkin about. I know Safeway is a big one up north I guess, but we have none down here. I always thought Kroger and Publix were big, but maybe not. Publix and Whole Foods by the way, are the best grocery stores.

I agree with you.. I LOVE Whole Foods. That's where I do 99-percent of my grocery shopping. They're very pricey, but I do like the quality of their foods. The one that I go to gets a lot of their produce at local organic farms. I wish they had a Publix by me. That is a fabulous store!
As for the largest.. the honors had been Krogers. They merged with Fred Meyer in 1998, and became the biggest supermarket chain in the country-- with $43 billion dollars in annual revenue in 31 states.
BUT in 200w, Wal-mart took over the number one slot with $53 billion dollars in grocery sales.
Albertsons is #3.

Actually I would tie coke in with all the anti-American stuff, even though it's from Atlanta or whatever, because the original recipe had Cocaine in it.
Therefore, you are the one who is the terrorist supporter!

Pepsi sponsors Jeff Gordon. Jeff Gordon drives for Hendrix. Hendrix gave money to Kerry. Kerry is a known terrorist.

I agree. I don't get the relationship between NKorea, Iran, NJ and Pepsi. (and being from NJ, I fail to see any humor in it either)

Whole Foods is supremely wonderful, and I am so very sad that Wal-mart is the largest food supplier in America that there are just no words

I *HEART* Whole Foods too. What I *DON'T* like about the Whole Foods near me is the lack of veggies in the self-serve prepared foods section. I know that it varies from store to store though.

Kroger used to be bigger - well, they used to be here until all the union brouhaha and they left. There aren't any in PA any more, as far as I know.
Sad to say, the most popular grocery store these days is probably (gag) Walmart.

Alpha, better work on that.
I think KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut are owned by Yum Brands, I have a couple friends who work at their HQ.
