It wouldn't of mattered, we still couldn't of accomplished anything under Frank the Tank. There's about err, the entire state of Nebraska (minus a few trolls here and there) that's glad Frank Solich is no longer the head coach of the Nebraska Football Team.

This is what it looked like when Callahan took over. These were pics from the spring game 2003 and the results of Frank's recruiting. When BC was asked about the talent level now compared to where it was when he first got there he just said he wasn't going to discuss that issue. Cosgrove said when he first got here the players were "pencil necked." Not anymore. They won't win them all this year but you're not going to see this crap anymore. Those days are OVER.

Here's a picture of the type of guy Callahan is bringing to the team...

Now, with that said...I respect what Frank Solich did for the Huskers as a player and assistant coach under Osborne. However, he turned a National Championship contender into an average Big XII team. I give him the best of luck at Ohio, and offer this simple advice: Stay away from the booze, Don't blame your DUI on someone drugging you with GHB, and pay attention to road signs!!!

Yeah, thats true. Ohio is within a couple hours of some powerhouse programs. It must be tough for them, being a state namesake school and still not getting even close to a stranglehold of their home-grown talent.

Nebraska's backup and annoited "golden child" for next year, Harrison Beck, disappeared from practice yesterday. The Nebraska rivals board went into a meltdown.

Here are some quotes from Beck's mom in an article from the Lincoln Journal-Star:

Quote:
Beck-Bothwell said from Florida her son has been frustrated because he’s not getting enough practice repetitions. She said junior Joey Ganz is receiving the brunt of the snaps behind senior returning starter Zac Taylor.

“It’d be different if (Beck) was sitting behind Matt Leinart or Brady Quinn,” Beck-Bothwell said. “Zac’s OK; I wish him all the best, but he’s just OK. The bottom line is, my son isn’t learning anything. He’s just on his own. If he got more time and attention from the coaches, he would be ahead of (Taylor). That’s just my opinion, but I’m his mother.

“He knows that playbook. It’s just an issue of not getting respect from the older players.”

“Maybe if he would’ve stayed in the SEC, he would’ve been playing,” Beck-Bothwell said. “Maybe he made the wrong decision, I don’t know.

“I know he has some growing up to do, but it’s not like he’s getting in trouble. He’s doing everything he’s supposed to do.”
The kid has done nothing to earn the respect of the older players. Everything I've heard from friends on campus is that the kid is the most immature person ever, he's far more concerned about his death metal band than football, and he hates Nebraska b/c he didn't really consider anything other than football when he committed - like the weather, class, etc.

Also, our top returning CB - one of Mel Kiper's top 25 for next year's draft - is out for the season after tearing his ACL. That pretty much ruined my day b/c our secondary is the weakest link on our defense (front 7 is going to be all world however). But at least he'll get a medical redshirt.

So Harrison Beck drove all the way home to FL over the weekend. He was apparently stewing about being placed as 4th string in meetings on Saturday. Some think that this was being used as a motivation technique...

It was pretty much assured that Beck thought he'd be coming back until he heard about the comments his mother made. Having heard those he knew that he couldn't come back and so asked for the release of his scholarship which was granted.

The sad thing is that those comments were supposed to be off the record, and the kids mom told the reporter that. He used them anyways to get the scoop, and pretty much ruined Nebraska's QB depth and this kid's current situation (what with school starting in two weeks). There are a lot of people angry at this sportswriter here in NE right now.

Oh, you hope not. Then who would the Horns rag on on Orangebloods.com?

P.S. I lived in Texas for 20 years, so although I'm a Seminole Grad, the Horns are my #2 favorite team.

It remains to be seen whether there will be any sanctions at all. Even the pro-aggie media up here is saying that it's likely that the NCAA will be satisfied with the self-imposed restrictions (expulsion of all involved, severing ties with the donor).

Really, even given the recent problems with other teams (men's BB)?

really, OU Athletic department has not had a good last 18 or so months - first the racist comments by the baseball manager, the Kelvin Sampson violations and subsequent leaving for IU, and now Bomar...

1) Racist comments -- coach was fired, almost immediately.

2) Recruiting violations -- these do not affect Oklahoma since Sampson took his restrictions with him to IU. You can't actually expect the compliance director to investigate the cell phone records of coaches who know the rules -- asking this is unreasonable. Coaches should know the rules. Sampson did it, now he's facing his own personal sanctions. The institution was employing the same oversight as anyone else -- the coach just didn't feel like following the rules. I can say that I was disgusted with his behavior, and I'm glad he's gone despite having Capel who is as much an unknown factor as you can have as a coach (but Castiglione has done pretty well with his hires, so I'll withhold judgment).

3) Bomar/Quinn: Dismissed from the team. The compliance office's own internal investigation turned this up which means that they were on the ball. Instead of sweeping it under the rug a la Ohio State/USC and trying to minimize the impact on their roster, they dismissed the players from the team. Had it been A.D., or Stoops' own mother, they would have been dismissed. Again, the head of the NCAA has already publicly said that he was very impressed with Oklahoma's reaction. At this point, it's doubtful that Oklahoma will face any further restrictions due to the fact that it self-investigated, and has dealt with the issue as well as anyone possibly could (instead of doing what some teams do and waiting for the disgruntled booster [see: Reggie Bush] to come forward and say that, for example, he had bought the player's family a house).

Well I'm an ASU grad so I should support them, but after what the coach just pulled, I'm hoping they lose this year (sad as that sounds).

Since I went to U of A for a short time, maybe I'll support them this year. LOL.

From the home of the original White Out and Zombie Bounce:

PSU isn't going to go 11-1 again this year but I'm telling you, last year wasn't a fluke. 9-3, 10-2 is very possible this year with a New Year's Day bowl.

Well, while the Carpenter/Keller/Koetter thing was certainly weird, my Huskers immediately become much better for 2007, so I'm glad it happened. What sort of things do you know about what happened?

Basically nothing. A bunch of hearsay and BS. From what I understand Koetter announced he chose Keller as starting QB. Then supposedly there was this meeting with 19 of the players and I guess these 19 claimed they weren't "happy" with the decision of Keller being the starter. So from the sounds of it Koetter decided to make those 19 players "happy" by booting Keller to the curb and having Carpenter be starting QB.

It was such a big deal for a couple of days. But that was all any could gather. They did pass along that if Keller chose to go to a Division 1 school he had to sit out for a year or he could chose to go to a Division 2 school and immediately start playing.

My whole issue with it was the Koetter chose Keller first. He should have kept Keller as his starter and next season given the position to Carpenter. The way Koetter did this was just so backhanded. It seriously made me think that Koetter just "stabbed" Keller in the back. I lost a lot of respect for Koetter with this situation.

I watched and interview with Carpenter and wasn't impressed with him at all. He was like (and I'm totally paraphrasing basically what he was saying) "oh well, I don't want us (ASU) to go to the Insight Bowl again, we should be going to the Rose Bowl". I was like OMG are you kidding me. He sounded like an arrogant ass. But then again, ASU has totally jinxed themselves in my book. They are walking around being like "oh we made the Rose Bowl in 1986 and then in 1996, this is our year to go again". The moment they start "assuming" the team is unbeatable and that they will make it to the Rose Bowl is the moment they don't. But they (ASU football) is going on this assumption that they make it to the Rose Bowl every 10 years. Hell, they have even put up a billboard, right of I-17 saying ASU & Rose Bowl (which made absolutely no sense to me the first time I saw it since the Rose Bowl is played in Pasadena, but now that I know the 10 year thing, I get it).
