I don't care if you're from the South, North, East or West, the only things you are "born" knowing is how to cry, eat and poop.
In all seriousness, I don't think Sydney was advocating teaching pledges ritual AT ALL - rather saying that your chapter (the brothers only) should look at the values contained in your ritual and treat your pledges according to those values.
