I was wondering if anyone has any pointers for first time alumnae volunteering at rush. This will be my first time and I'm really excited about it, but kinda worried at the same time. Thanks!

As an alumna, you'll be in the background. My chapter made the punch and brought the shrimp and chocolate covered strawberries for pref night. We also served the PNMs. Other than that, we were there mostly for moral support.
You may be approached by some PNMs with questions like, "What's the sorority like after graduation? What does you sorority mean to you?" etc.
Just be there for your sisters, and be proud that you'll be representing the lifetime bond of sisterhood. The PNMs will see that sisterhood doesn't end with graduation.

That's interesting that alums actually helped with pref (serving PNMs). At my school, only active sisters were allowed to be out with the PNMs...alums lived in the kitchen

As an alumna, make sure you know the rules of what you can and can't do, say or not say.
We had an alumna say hello to someone she knew, (the pnm spoke first) and we got a rush infraction. I think it was $10 but hey, lol.

Alums helping out at recruitment should be ready and willing to help with anything and everything! If that means washing crystal until your hands are waterlogged, clearing trash between rounds, running emergency errands, number crunching, or whatever then do it with a smile. Oh, and have fun!

Definately! And find out beforehand too. Let someone know that you're available to come and when so they can schedule things. One year we had a ton of alums show up on the first day of 1st round. There were so many they were bumping into each other and fighting over cleaning up glasses. Then the next day no one showed and we had to pull actives to do the job.
Also, find out if there are restricted times to enter or leave, like between parties. We used to have a rule that alums had to enter the house through the back door or the Chapter would be fined. It was thought that walking past the PNMs to the front door might somehow influence them. (???) But it finally dawned on Panhellenic that where parking was located and where the back doors of some houses were did not make this an easy task. Plus, if an alum has to trudge through mud and zig zag around dumpsters, she might not want to come help. So that rule was fortunately changed.
