Gah! So I typed out this huge response and my computer decided to restart itself in the midst of my reply.
Anyway when we went we stayed at the Radisson. Great location, fairly close to the parts you want to see, its a walking town so pretty much anywhere you stay will be good. Plus they had an awesome breakfast bar...I highly recommend the hotel just for that
. My cowoker went around the same time I was there and her and her husband stayed at the Aria Hotel (
http://www.ariahotel.net/) and she rants and raves about it. She said it was a bit more pricey but had a great atmopshere and service, they also provided free airport pickup.
As far as places to see: definitely pick up a Frommers guide or some sort of tour book. That came in really handy for us. We didnt do any day trips but spent 5 days there which was enough to see all the sights in Prague. The castle tour I thought was a waste of money but its worth going up to the castle be forewarned that its an uphill hike! Check out the main bridge in Prague too...cant remmeber what its called but lots of street vendors and artists sell their stuff there so great place to pick up some souvenirs.
The food was great, anything we had was incredible. But be forewarned, in Prague if you go to a resturant often times they'll just charge you a fee for sitting there and/or charge you for water or bread that they place on your table. Dont feel embarrased to tell them you dont want it. That was the first thing we learned when we got there, we found a resturant that were blown away by how cheap the food was but then we got the bill and we got slammed with a seating fee and for the bread we didnt order. The people are ok but they definitely try and rip off tourists so you have to be smart about it. Also cant remember if its in Prauge or one of the other cities we visited on that trip, but if I remember correctly theres something about the tipping custom thats different than here...if you get the Frommers book it covers all the cultural stuff you should be aware of. If your husband likes beer he has to try Prague's version of Budweiser...since Budweiser more or less stole the formula of Budweiser from eastern Europe (or so we were told). Either way it tastes really good and much better than the crap Bud you can get in the States, theres even a brewery in the new town area of Prague that we stumbled on and you can take a free tour. Oh, and there are plenty of public bathrooms in Prague - some more dirty than others but you also have to pay to get in. Cant remember how much but its loose pocket change so not too much.
