I can only speak for Theta Nu Xi, but if an aspirant doesn't have a member to give us her background, her credentials have to be especially stellar. We have the luxury of having a very selective process as we have time to really get into contacting references, confirming activities, etc. The thing is, we can't afford to take individuals who are not committed to our tenets and who will not uphold our standards. Such people can't just fade into the crowd because we don't really have a crowd. I will be VERY surprised if ever I see a line of more than fifteen aspirants at once. And, that's really pushing it as we discourage chapters having more than thirty members at a time.
