I'm from a nearby, but much different city than Riverdale. I was born in Riverdale, although the makeup of the city was much different at the time. As sad as this is, it doesn't surprise me. Violent crime is common in Clayton County, and these are simply the suburbs. Whats worse, the people in charge (police, county commission, etc) don't do much to change it. Unfortunately, many of Clayton's former residents are coming into our county, and not surprisingly, crime rates are on the rise and property values are on the decline. I hope one day such terrible incidents will result in broad changes in Atlanta and surrounding areas, especially considering the futility of everything they are "doing" now.
