Alright, it looks like my grand SEC rec total is:

9 at UGA
2 at Auburn
1 at LSU
1 at Tennessee

I'm hoping for at least one to be a Delta Gam on bid day!

Yesterday in the Athens Target, I overheard the following:

"I don't understand why we all have to come back for work week. I've already gone through it twice."

I restrained myself from telling the girl how it was back in the day, with full-frills rush with two rounds of musical skits, head-to-toe completely matching costumes for three of four rounds, including matching bridesmaid dresses for Pref. Did I mention cleaning out bourbon barrels for the Pirates of Penzance skit? Building a dock in the basement? Matching bridesmaid dresses? In blue dotted swiss? Trying to find capri pants in the 80's for the Wiz skit? Having to run out for new shoes after failing shoecheck, due to wearing them down practicing the dances? Buying another Lanz, Malia, or Lily sundress in August because someone else bought one the same pattern as you, on the day that panhellenic rules forbade us from matching?

Oh - there was a quickchange in the Chorus Line skit. We wore regular practice leotards on stage, then changed to gold lame' and ran out into 90 degree heat for the final porch song. I always made it, but sometimes my shoes didn't.

Omicron is not spelled "Omicpmn"
Alabama is not spelled "Alabma"
President is not spelled "Preident"

I am pretty sure Cox and Carlisle did not go to college, and Crawford dropped out of Northwestern after one semester - she was not Greek.

I'm sure those are correct for all the sororities. However, it's not the Courteney Cox from Friends, the Cindy C the model, or the Belinda the ex Go-Go - it just happens to be a non-celebrity person who shares their name.

Yep, us too! We had to have matching pref dresses with white or silver shoes. We all were to buy the same teal fabric and MAKE our pref dresses over the summer. (I don't sew!)

I still have my rush sked-- all the skits, songs, and required outfits for each day. There was a sort of "rush camp"-- everyone in our Zeta chapter came back to school a week early. All day long, there were skit practices at the house, song practices and seminars (know your sorority, Zeta etiquette and manners, etc) for the entire pre-rush week. Long days-- starting at 8am and ending at 9pm.

We were assigned a "rush buddy" which was kind of a "secret santa" thing.. and all during the week, we would leave presents for your rush buddy.

You guys have certainly brought back memories of seventies rush! The one that made my mother crazy was the one where we had to have antebellum dresses sewn (and I don't sew!) over the summer. At least we didn't need hoops in them, lol, but our theme was "Showboat" and our piece de resistance song was sung to the tune of 'Ol' Man River"..."Sweet carnations across the nation, the wine and blue are waiting for you.." and so help me, we converted our chapter room into an authentic showboat with a night scene outside, gangplank, and chirping cricket noises from under the gangplank.

oh lordy; we did "my fair zeta"(my fair lady) and wore these hideous bridesmaidy pastel dresses with the requisite picture frame hat in coordinating colors. how ever did a recruitment vp become convinced that we would look lovely in those IN august IN florida???

another chapter did pippin and was dressed in loud colored knee britches , white stockings , matching suspenders-they looked like old fashioned paper boys. what were we all thinking??

I wrote a rec today for a girl going through at Auburn! How wonderful it was to send a rec to my own chapter!!

I had a tough time finding recs for my daughter last year, too (not SEC, ACC) and I was in a large Greek system in college with friends in all different houses. It was very time consuming, and I sent out so many emails to random groups like my Sunday School class, PTA, etc. to find them. On the other hand, when my daughter's friend needed help to get recs for deferred recruitment at an SEC school, I had the contacts for her in minutes. The ease of obtaining recs definitely depends on where you go and what houses they have. (and who you know, of course!)

The girls from our kids' school tend to congregate amongst three or four different sororities at UGA, so I've never been asked to write a rec for anybody even though I have an "alum" sticker on my car. The funny thing is that most of them also pledge the same houses at Auburn and Alabama, too.

It's funny because where I'm from (an Atlanta suburb), it seems that many girls, no matter what college they attend, end up in one particular sorority. It's funny how things work out sometimes
