Aren't Teddy Bears just "recent" ( as in the last 10 years) as our mascot? I seem to remember the KD chapter at my alma mater having a different mascot while I was in school, and I think it was frogs! It was really unusual to remember amidst a bevy of lions, ladybugs, owls, and squirrels!

As I recall, there were no KD mascots when I was a collegian back in the olden days. The Katydid became a mascot following a convention when Suzy Spafford (Suzy's Zoo) created it which was long after I graduated.

A lot of chapters also seem to unofficially adopt ladybugs as mascots, too.

Personally, I have no beef about wearing bears...then again, it's my school's mascot, too! Sic 'em, Bears!

I'll miss DZ's turtles, though. Hopefully the turtles will still stick! They're so cute!

I absolutely love teddy bears! I gave my little a red teddy bear, which was one of our "family colors," and then I gave my grand lil a "butterfly bear" because all of the ladies in our family loved butterflies. I guess it goes back to me being a kid tho, and having tons of them. Anyway, I have no objection to wearing or showing off my sorority's mascot!!!

The other day in torts, our prof gave us a hypothetical that the Baylor Bear escaped from his cage, wandered over to a golf course and fell asleep on the path, and then a poor golfer tripped over the bear and broke his leg. All the Baylor kids were laughing. I know some schools have real animal mascots, do you guys have a real bear? Or was he just trying to be funny?

OMG! You don't happen to go to Baylor law, do you?

Yes, we have a pair of live bears in the middle of campus. And they certainly aren't teddy bears.

I do think the bears are cute--it's just different seeing them now. I definitely think that they look great on a lot of the KD merchandise out there. Some friends had given me some KD stuff with the bears on them!

Interestingly, in a fund-raising magazine my daughter brought home from school, they had a candy in their called Katydids--some type of chewy chocolate caramel thing.
