Umm...eww. There are 292 of them in the neighborhood that I am moving to in less than week, including one that is only like .37 miles away, awesome. That's in downtown Omaha though so I guess it's not that surprising....The place I live right now though, a small college town, has 150 offenders and one of them is .06 miles away from me, even better! This website is terrifying.

It looks like I have about 10-15 in my area, the closest about 4 miles from my home. It looked like all mine were old old gray haired men. Yuck.....
Only 1 was for rape, and 2 were for children offenses, the others were in green and didnt say what for.
Creepy though. I hope I dont see any of them when Im out now.... When I lived in Akron and went to U of A, we had so many in downtown it wasnt funny. Our sorority house got notices people were offenders and living in the neighborhood and when I moved a few streets from the sorority house, we'd get notices all the time about people. I actually got scared and wouldnt walk alone because some were on my way to class. Id pull into the driveway and run into our house....
I came from a small town with like a couple thousand living there so that scared the crap out of me....
Now I need to go look and see if my hometown has any...

Ok I looked at my hometown. We have about 5. One is down the street from my moms. The guy looks like hes 90 and he was arrested for importuning. All the rest are for sexual conduct with a minor and sexual imposition.
One guy I know too. The girl he dated was 17 and he was 18 and the mom didnt like him so she reported him...

Should a teenage guy who hooks up with a younger girl be listed along with violent sex offenders? For the sake of argument, assume that the boy and girl are within a few years age difference.

That's why they tell you what they were convicted for and give the code. I prefer Michigan's sex offender website because they also give you a place to look up what the codes mean. People who are convicted of indecent exposure for urinating in a bar parking lot are also listed on those sites forever, and that seems less threatening to me that the situation you pose.
And yeah, I'd want to know if the 17 year old boy that my 15 year old daughter is dating has been convicted of having sex with a minor...

In Michigan, yes. I have a friend from high school who was in his senior year, dating I believe either a freshman or sophmore. Her parents found out they were having sex, got mad, called statutory rape. Now he will forever be on that list, even though he was just having sex with his more than willing girlfriend. (not condoning teenage sex, but this is a case of they were only a few years apart and he did jail time)

A wise man once said that he loved teenage girls because he kept getting older and they stayed the same age.

I looked up the town that I went to college in. There are a couple of kids I used to baby-sit for and about 4 houses down the street from them lives a registered sex offender. His crime was against a 13-16 year old minor so that kinda freaks me out. There is also a registered sex offender living about a block away from their school.
This is the kind of website that I try not to look out cuz it just freaks me out more than anything. One lives right down the block from me, but I also live in the city so I was kind of expecting that.
