Good point.

That is a good point.
I'm just going to keep it real. Jade's stank attitude makes her look draggish and hard. She should have been gone 2 weeks ago.
Danielle does take beautiful pictures. She should win but I guess we'll see...... After last season's pick I guess anything's possible.

Um...no one said anything about Nnenna's accent because her accent didn't make it hard to understand what she was saying. She didn't slur her words together and twang when she talked. Let's keep it real - a southern accent is one thing, slurring and twanging is another. There are models with southern accents - Andie McDowell for example...she's from the south. But she doesn't slur and twang.
On the real - Danielle needs to tighten it up. It's not that they perceive it as "ghetto" - it's that she needs to speak more clearly, instead of sounding like she has a mouth full of sunflower seeds.

She doesn't need a speech coach. She just needs to make an effort to think before she speaks, and then speak more clearly. Shoot, Tyra already fixed her teeth - is she supposed to be Pygmalion?? Tyra also knew Sara couldn't model when she picked her to be on the show...she knew that the first ANTM Yohanna couldn't walk...but during the course of the show, they LEARN and IMPROVE.
Danielle needs to make an effort ON HER OWN to improve her speech. That's how real WINNERS roll. I think she can do it, if she makes an effort. CLEARLY she has not even TRIED to improve her speech.
All Danielle needs to do to win is practice her speech. Shyt, rent "My Fair Lady" and practice saying, "The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain." Just do SOMETHING.

Okay, the show just aired last night so I'm sure there has been a million comments already but why did I get a headache laughing at Furonda doing her version of the Thai dance? Hayle, I'm laughing right now just typing about it! My husband thought I was watching Dave Chappelle the way I was cracking up!
At first I was on Jade's side since she is a fellow New Yorker but that ended during the very first episode as soon as she opened her mouth. As much as everyone wants to see her go I have a feeling she will be in the top 2 because she makes this season pop. I wish I could see more behind the scenes clips because I know Jade says way more arrogrant crap than what is shown to the viewing audience. I would also love to see Danielle win but her speech will be her downfall. I agree with who ever said it's not her accent it's the way she re-mixes the words! I don't think there is enough time to get it to the point where the judges want it to be especially if she isn't even trying. The only one's left that are even on my radar are Jade and Danielle so one of them needs to win- I will keep my fingers crossed.

In the last delliberation, Tyra and Nigel specifically said "She needs to be a little less ghetto." And if you think back, you can see other examples of this, such as Sarah (season 2) simply using the words "we'll hook you up" to sell a product--afterwards they said she had done well until she went into the ghetto thing.
I think its interesting that some people have trouble understanding Danielle, because I've never had any trouble understanding her, although I might if I had never spent time in the south. This confirms my belief that the problem is dialect and not clarity.

Yeah, and season 2 Sarah using the words "we'll hook you up" to sell a product WAS ghetto. Tyra ain't lyin.
I have no problem understanding Danielle either. But I just happen to understand unclear, country azz speech...and so do you, it seems. The bolded above is why Danielle needs to work it out - it's not Down South's Next Top Model. Cover Girl commercials are national - they need a model who everyone can understand...ESPECIALLY the judges.
They're not saying that Danielle is ghetto because she has a country accent. They're saying that talking like you have a mouth full of rocks is ghetto, and when you are slurring and twanging on top of that, it's even worse. Her pics are keeping her in the game...now she needs to step up her speaking ability.
You're tryin' to make it too deep. It isn't that deep, really.

I don't think that pointing out my observation is making it deeper than it is. You seem to agree with the judges, while I do not. I acknowledge cultural traits as just that--cultural, neither negative nor positive. I observe that dominant cultures are seen as better than marginal ones, inciting praise or scolding. I don't think twang or using the phrase "hook you up" are bad or wrong. Nor do I believe that the cultures they come from are not marketable, because they are consumed like wildfire every day by a vast White majority.

When Andie McDowell first got into acting, she was in an update of "Tarzan" and apparently her accent was so thick Glenn Close had to dub her lines for her. No one cared previously, because all she had to do was MODEL - as in be in pictures and walk runways and never open her mouth. This isn't what ANTM is (or should I say has become). It's a tryout for the next spokeswoman for Cover Girl. If this was really just about modeling, no one would care if Danielle even spoke English. I doubt that any of those Eastern European girls that are the rage right now talk like William F. Buckley.
FWIW, I have no problem understanding her, but then again I speak Pittsburghese which baffles many people.

I think everyone makes a good point about how Danielle's speech is perceived - ghetto or not ghetto.
I don't think that she is ghetto, she is just country. I think she exaggerates her accent more than she needs to. If she was on a professional interview, we would not want her to speak that way.
I think Tyra is trying to make the point that models are not just pretty faces on a picture, they are smart, intelligent and ARTICULATE women. This is even more important for a Black woman/model because I am sure the industry already has placed a stigma or a Black model as being a "diva" or "b!tc$"
The bottomline is - she can make an effort to speak more clearly than she does.
