				HBO New Series : Rome

I saw the "making of" this new series last night on HBO. It looks great, and considering that most of the TV I watch is on HBO, I guess I will give it a shot. Anyone else catch it? Will add more after the repeat of the premier in a 1/2 hour.
ETA: Ok, so I watched it and it was great...really well done, though I thought that women didn't do theater in ancient Rome? Anyone? I will watch again.

I thought it was okay, but it didn't live up to my expectations. There are so many characters to keep track of! This week's ep looks good though...

I gotta say I'm impressed... they are really capturing the Roman world, and not pulling punches when it comes the Roman attitudes towards sex or violence.
For once in a show the Rubicon wasn't some great river or carefully marked boundry - but the small river it really was...
I also like their take on the intercine political scheming that led to the fallout between Ceasar and Pompeii; as well as the portrayal of class within the political system.

I alos like how the language is closely "Latin" in form and vocabulary Its been a long time since I've heard [i]Probity[i] used other than in Classics... heck they are even slipping in Latin words and phrases now in this last episode.

I watched last night when I finally gave the boy the remote and was very surprised! I thought with the fair amount of fighting etc I would dislike the show, but with everything else going on in the show I really enjoyed it! The other storylines are worth watching.

And after the Rubicon was mentioned earlier in the evening in an unrelated event the boy was so glad to see the scene where Caesar was crossing it!

So I watched the entire season and really liked it...I was bummed about Niobe though. Now it seems Voerenus will go off the deep end...we shall see. I wonder what is in store for next season. And was it me or is Servilia a vindictive b----?

			Caesar... sic semper tyrannis!

Let's hope they don't wait forever and a day for the next season... don't want another Sopranos on our hands!

Already been signed... back around episode 7 or so...

As a historian even I gotta say (in Comic Guy voice) best show ever! I'm sorry but this series blows away the Sopranos for coniving and betrayal... especially the season finally. And of course the Sopranos has nothing on Rome when it comes to sex now does it?

This is a hell of a series. Does anyone want to venture a guess as to why in all movies about Rome everyone speaks with a british accent? Never could figure that out.

It's a joint HBO/BBC production; most of the actors are British, with a few Italians mixed in. It's filmed at Rome's Cinecitta studios.

My guess is that it's possible that the Queen's English - at least for American ears - sounds more like Latin?
