My old team kept a centrally located out of office calendar so you would know who is out when. On 12/21, he wrote "end of the world, no work" and drew and arrow through the rest of Dec. 
The only thing I'm wary about on 12/21 are the CRAZIES. We were out in the city last years on NYE and we saw lots of crazies with end of the world related signs. They make me more uncomfortable than anything. I'm seriously considering driving to work that day to avoid public transportation.

We are hosting an "end of the world -doomsday prepper" party on the 21st-providing that the world doesn't end before 7 pm. I found "End of the World" beer by shock top. I figure my contribution to the party will be the EOTW beer, wine, and ice cream dessert and chocolate, because that is all most women would really need to weather any storm!

This sounds like fun! Chocolate was important in the Mayan culture, so that will add to the party theme, too. Charge everything to your credit card so it will be free if the world ends!
I worked with someone who stockpiled all kinds of survival supplies and equipment for the Jan. 1, 2000 computer scare...similar to a Cold War bomb shelter. She and her husband stealthily worked on this for months. After the new year, she took two personal days off to return what they could. They were probably drinking Ensure and eating canned food for months. The creepy thing was that she told us before the holiday break that they were prepared to defend their hoard from any looters. I never quite looked at her the same way after that.

We're going to an "End of the World" party on 12/21. One of my friends is turning 40 that day, so his wife is throwing a huge party to celebrate both events. We're planning on picking up some of this for the party:
And if the world does end, I won't have to worry about a hangover!
