Fairtax.org is an advocate, presenting reasons to improve the nation's tax system. I haven't checked the site in much detail - and have gotten most of my info from the author's radio show - but I think they try to answer many frequent questions in the Q&A section.
I trust it more than any "govt. sponsored site."
