I was on the patch for about two years and the only thing that I noticed was that the day before I started I would get a massive headache. It was the hide in bed, block out all the lights kind. Everything else was wonderful and I loved not having to remember to take a pill everyday. One thing I figured out after a few moths was where exactly you couldn't put that thing. "Low clothing traffic areas" worked the best, places like the back of the shoulder and sometimes the outside of the thigh. I hated having it anywhere else.

Question - after going off bc, how long does it take to get back a normal period?

I was on the pill for a long time, and my periods were pretty regular since I stopped. It's not clockwork-like as it is on the pill, but it's never a surprise.

I was on bc for 11 years and then decided to stop. After about 4 months my periods became *really* irregular and dangerously long so my doctor and I decided that I should go back on the pill. I have associated health issues though that caused my system to wack out.

It took me about 4 months to stop being regular, I don't know if this is a normal time-frame or simply because I had been on it for so long.

That idea terrifies me. I will definately keep popping those pills religiously until I am married and CERTAIN that I am ready to have children.

For awhile I had the theory that if I got off the pill, I would be less likely to sleep with people... But then I was just frustrated all the freakin time, so I got back on it.... Now I just try to control myself better in certain situations.

I love the pill! It gives me the protection, ease of use, and peace of mind that I really need in my BC. I've tried other things, and always keep coming back to the pill.

I was on depo for about a year+. It took about 3 months to start having periods again after my "time" ran out.

Anyone else allergic to latex? The "only use condoms" comment make me think about.

I discovered that I've developed one, so I'm on a pill, spermicide and a monogomous releationship.

This sounds like a pretty good defense to me. It's the same one I used to use. Now, I stick with the pill and condoms (mainly since I'm not in a monogomous relationship).

I'm not allergic to latex.... Is this an allergy that has developed for you, or is it something you always had, but just never knew what it was?

well i don't know if i really plan on getting married - don't see the point of it, really. as for ready to have children, I am. Sure I'm not in the BEST financial situation, but it's not bad, I'm confident I could handle it if it were to happen (certainly better off than my cousin who was pregnant at 18!) [don't forget, I'm in Canada so a lot of expenses you may have down there are diff, and i think maternity leave here is better].

Now, I do agree though staying on the pill or something else if you're not ready - also my doc once told me the risks associated with BC are much less than all the problems that can occur with pregnancy, so yeah it's usually better to stay on the pill. I just have decided that preventing pregnancy is not a high priority anymore. And like i mentioned, it's not like I'm getting any action to begin with. Maybe if I were to get back into a relationship, I might start again.

I have a friend who uses IUD and she loves it. I just get squeamish at the thought of that procedure though (although I'm not usually squeamish about much - heck I've seen my own cervix! thanks to the doc and a hand mirror )

Doc said it could have developed over time. It didn't affect me so much with my last bf. But as I've gotten older, it seems to have developed into something where I can't have a guy use a latex at all. I won't go into the details of a reaction... it borders along TMI.

Yeah, I have heard about some of the reactions... Not fun.

Interesting that these kind of things can develop over time.... Maybe a change in hormones or something?

Maybe... or it was always there, but never surfaced. I've always had "some" sort of issue... but not nearly as bad. So perhaps the developing over time issue isn't the allergy itself, just the severity of it.

(Kinda like I never had allergies prior to moving to Sacramento. Now I get hayfever... )

Um, I don't mean to offend, but I doubt I will be taking advice from an old drunk dude about birth control.

Lay off the bottle. Seriously. In case you didn't know, it takes two to have a baby. Men should be just as interested in birth control. And are women who choose to have sex loose? What about the men?
