As with many things in this world, it all depends on the individual. 25-35 lbs is considered average, but there are women who will gain much more or much less during their pregnancy and still be fine.

If a woman is slender to begin with, she will often gain a bit more than average than when pregnant. If a woman is overweight to begin with, she will often gain less/gain none/sometimes lose weight when pregnant.

As long as a woman remains healthy during her pregnancy (meaning, no gestational diabetes, no high blood pressure/pre-eclampsia, etc...) even a weight gain of 40-50 lbs can be "okay". Being pg does not mean you have free-reign to eat Bic Macs and cheetos all the live long day, though (which I think dear Brit-Brit was fond of doing more often than not).

And I heard it was Shawn Preston Spears Federline, too.
