I know this isn't what you were asking, but I brought this fact up during our Alumnae Volunteer Conference earlier this year. I was clearly reminded that even when we become "alumnae", ESPECIALLY if we choose to participate in an Alumnae Association, we ARE expected to also participate in community service stuff because community service events are part of our obligations of a "lifetime" of sisterhood. Problems that a lot of orgs run into on the alumnae level is that people use the fact that things "aren't mandatory since they aren't in college anymore" as an "excuse" to get out of community service. Thoughts anyone?

That's the beauty of it tho. If you don't want to join the alumni association, you don't have to keep paying philanthropy donations out of your own pocket.
