I guess its difficult for a third party to give you an answer to that. An EC, in my eyes, is there for advice, guidance, to be a point person for communication to/from General, to hold the chapter in check, to praise them when they do well and to scare the shit out of them when they're walking the fence, to be autoritative when needed and to kick back when they can....etc. It all depends.
As a colony, you should probably have a GREAT relationship with your EC. They are not here to hurt you or shut you down (nor can they), but if you make them your worst enemy, its obvious that you will feel distanced from them.
Keep an open mind, they're Beta's too.
