Being a military brat, whose father had TWO tours of duty in a war zone (Vietnam) and one isolated tour in Turkey, I guess this story hit a nerve with me. I can relate to missing your parent and needing some extra understanding when tensions run high. I WISH there had been cell phones all those years ago. I can remember getting a "reel to reel" tape in the mail (sporadically) to "hear" my daddy's voice when I was young. Only letters when I was older and Dad was in Turkey.

Apparently, I was not the only person NOT in the school district who felt the same from her response to me.
