This is why I always try to park next to a newer or nicer car than mine. I figure the owners will be careful when opening their doors and pulling out of the spot, not for the sake of my car, but so that their car doesn't get scratched up.
I use this strategy too. It works really well, until the really nice car moves and an SUV with kids in the back seat takes its place. (Someone got my one week old brand new car too!)
