Ohhh this is soooooo my MIL--- I can't tell you the amount of times that my MIL has said "well that is nice your family can do that, but my family can't--we aren't
rich like your family." That was her excuse for my husband's family not coming to our wedding or reception-- it was too far and my family could afford to fly around the world for that sort of thing.
You MIL sounds horrible, you poor thing! And it is the little things that are harder to deal with. If it was one big thing, everyone would see it, all the little things it is easy for people to say that "she's just trying to be nice".
As long as your husband is supportive, it will all be okay!
