An Emory School of Law alumna was elected chief justice of the Georgia Supreme Court on March 2, and is now preparing to take office as the state’s final arbiter.
The alumna, Georgia Associate Justice Leah Ward Sears (’80L), will become the first female chief justice and the second black chief justice in state history when she replaces current Chief Justice Norman Fletcher on July 1.
Justice Sears' official biography on the Georgia Supreme Court web site states that she is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha.
