Everyone in the industry who is close to Jen and Brad was shocked by this news. Friends of ours are friends with them and none of us heard about it before the media broke.
Here is what mr. amycat and I were thinking may be why they broke up--
1. Like most Hollywood couples, they didn't spend enough time together
or
2. Now that Jen is not working regularly on Friends, they are together too much.
