At least in my area, the most revered women are "Miss INSERT FIRST NAME" whether they are married or not. This status is especially reserved for older women with power and grace to whom you do not have a family connection (i.e. Aunt, etc.)

Question for southern gals: Do men have a similar status? I have long heard about the Miss FIRST NAME designation for women, but I have not heard anything about men. Are men still Mr. LAST NAME no matter what?
