To add to my confusion, when I hear "Latino" I usually think they are saying "Ladino" which according to some simply means the language, culture, and community of Sephardic Jews originally from Spain but later to be found worldwide. Others have told me that it is a not particularly favorite word as it was applied by anti-semitic types to spanish speaking Jews in a less than positive light. Those who like the word insist that it refers to a specific dialect that constitutes a very nearly seperate language which is considered to be worthy of general recognition as a major language in its own right. Could anybody out there help out with some insight here?
