Indiana State Chi-Os win Trike Race 4 years in a row

Fourpeat!
Teams extend winning streaks

The teams of Chi Omega sorority and Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity finished first in the Homecoming Trike races Friday.

Leah Arnold, Chi Omega's team captain, said she was both happy and sad after finishing the race.

"I'll miss it, but I'm glad to win on my last year," Arnold said.

Delta Gamma sorority placed second, and Alpha Chi Omega sorority placed third.

Dana VanderHill, a Chi Omega member, said it was the fourth year in a row her sorority has won. The team completed 30 laps to win the race in just over 35 minutes.

Laura Bossaer, a member of Alpha Chi Omega, said she was happy with third place.

"We worked really hard so I can't complain," Bossaer said.

Bossaer said it was difficult to ride in the cold weather Friday night because her team had been practicing in warm weather.

"Once you're on the bike, it doesn't seem that bad when your adrenaline is going," she said. "It's a really good experience, and it's worth it in the end no matter what place you got."

During the fraternity race later in the evening, riders got off to a rocky start.

During the first lap, a Phi Delta Theta member lost control of his bike and crashed. According to the rules of the race, a crash during the first lap results in a restart.

Ten laps into the race, the Sigma Chi team was disqualified from the race. Member Jason Clark said it was still "good times."

The team was disqualified for riding on two wheels and holding up traffic during rider switches.

"We had fun," Clark said jokingly about being disqualified.

After winning the race, Ben Miklozek, of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, said, "We practice to win, and we race to win."

Following the team's win, members of the fraternity began chanting "four more years." Miklozek said the chant was in reference to President Bush getting re-elected, and said it was also the fourth year in a row that his fraternity finished in first place.

Sigma Alpha Epsilon completed 42 laps in 39:46.

Phi Gamma Delta finished second in the race, while Pi Kappa Alpha placed third.

Michael York, a Phi Gamma Delta member, said, "SAE raced a hell of a race."

York commented on finishing second by stating, "It feels okay, but I wish we would have come in first."

York said Sigma Alpha Epsilon has a lot of experience, but his fraternity will "build on second place and next year take home first."
