Close, it was 1855. It is our third chapter. Aside from the Civil War years, when it closed, Virginia Beta has had a continuous existence.

Phi Kappa Chi was founded at Washington & Lee in 1865. At the request of the Phi Psi chapter, they changed their name to Kappa Alpha.
