I agree that young children especially pre-school -learn through play, As a Teacher of primary students in the first grade, I have expeirenced first hand that those students who did not have those experiences in pre-school are developmently delayed, especially when it comes to fine motor skills and balance which is needed in developing their handwriting. Also, I had a child in my classroom who did not know her five senses or colors. Research also shows that the arts promotes thinking skills on the right side of the brain. One's education should be balanced that includes art, and p.e. Children need to develop social skills which I feel p.e. promotes. I try to incorporate the arts in my classroom in just about every curriculum subject so as to promote thinking and creativity.
